wear allowance

Post by les »

I wonder if anyone can tell me the wear limits for the rear brake drums, the 7inch ones please?

Wear them down till they are close to the rivets that hold the pad to the shoe. At this point replace them.

Do not let the pads run lower than the rivets as this will damage/score your drums.

You may find that you get to the end of the travel of the brake adjusters before they get too low.

I am indeed Andrew, I'm wondering if it's worth keeping a couple of spare drums, they are 40thou over 7'' wondered if this is near max. I'm trying to make some space, but finding it increasingly hard to chuck stuff away!!

Save the iron and the best top Dennis, will come down when you're not busy! Bear me in mind if you come across the other bits! Thanks.

I think you are talking about the brake shoes Andrew and Les needs the dimensions on the actual brake drums.

Les it may be worth a call to your nearest spares specialist to see if they can measure one for you if no-one on here has a new one to measure.
Cheers

Thanks Kevin, I am pretty sure that they are 7'' when new, I'm also inclined to think that the max wear figure used to be cast into the actual casting, but unfortunately not on the ones I have.
