i think my startermotor has given up the ghost,is it easy to change.also ho hard is it to change the solonide, mine is the small type mounted on the bulk head.i went to cambridge to meet them at the meauseum ot technolegy and it went clunk and that was it.thankyou for the starting handle
From memory its a bit of a fiddle if its in situ in the car. But its do-able. Just undo the two bolts holding it to the gearbox casing and the earth cable attached to the back. Should pull straight out.

Ultimate rust cure for your moggy....paint it brown, at least that way you dont notice the rust as much!!
Piece of quiche to do a starter, just the wire and two bolts to sort*. Dunno about the bulkhead mounted solenoid, but the later version lower down is dead easy too
*I only know the later vehicles though, before someone points out any stupidity
If it went 'clunk' then good chance it's just a poor battery or earth connection. Check them all out first before rushing into starter changes. But yes - if it needs doing it really is dead easy.
bmc good news its not the starter, its the battery it just failed plain and simple,so ill get a new one in the morning.i usually get a bit of warning ie the starter slowing down, but there was none of that never mind
