Can anyone suggest a site that explains various computer terms, I can't configure this router I've bought, and one of the many weird sentences that has cropped up is--'You must be logged on as an administrator' How do I do that? Quick before the whole lot gets thrown out the window!!

There should be a re-set button, possibly recessed into a hole in the case. Find this, press the button with the nib of a biro or some such and you may have more luck.

What make/ model is the router?? If it didnt come with instructions then you should be able to download these from the web by searching the make and model (assuming you can access the web as you made a post here).

Thanks John, I'm useing my original modem to access here, which fortunately I'm able to reconnect after fruitless attempts to configure the wireless router/modem. It's a belkin G+ mimo. I have restored original settings by reset. It came with a installation disc but the wizard won't install as can't connect to net with this modem. Although I disconnect my original modem when trying all this, I'm wondering if I actually need to uninstall it from the computer.

Les, if its a router, then there is no need to install anything on your PC. Switch on the broadband router modem, re-set it, connect a network cable between your broadband router modem and PC and in the address bar on internet explorer, type in the IP address of the broadband router modem set up page. This will enable you to configure the modem.

There are some guides here :- http://www.belkin.com/support/download/ ... ng=1&mode=

BTW, are you sure this is a broadband modem router and not just a hub?? I've seen people try to connect to the internet using a wireless network Hub.

Switch on broadband router and PC, connect the two with a network cable, load your browser and type in the address bar http://192.168.2.1
or http://192.168.2.1:88
then click go
this will get you to the set up acreen of the router/modem, click log in, then initial set up- you then enter the log in details and user name/ password as providrd to you by your ISP.

save these settings, the connect the phone line (via filter) to your broadband moden router, power it down and on a agin and the internet should now work!

Yes definately a modem router, the problem seems to involve this 192.168.2.1 address, I have been trying to access this from the beginning with no joy, the screen will just continue to show the browser window after clicking enter, after a while error 633 pops up (modem or other connecting device is already in use, or not configued ) so I can't find a way ahead until I get the appropriate screens to appear.May uninstall original modem in case of conflict, not happy to do this though incase I lose all internet access!

No need to uninstall the original modem- as it is a totally different type of device being a [phone modem rather than modem router. Have you tried re-setting the modem router to factory settings? and connecting the PC via a network cable without the network router being connected to the phone line??

Before doing this- go into windows control panel and set your computer to access the internet via a network. Also, try disabling any firewalls you have (but DONT go on the web with firewall disabled!)

The set up screen will appear within your browser, btw, looking much like a web page.

Question 1 yes. Question 2 yes. I am concluding that there is an issue here that is stopping me getting to the set-up screen no matter what I try, It requires me getting on line, which I cannot do via the router. I have been on this all day and most of yesterday, will have to concede defeat for the moment, but offer thanks for your perseverance.

I have to say - I got the Orange 'Livebox' free from Orange and installation was a doddle - and I get FREE phone calls all over the world with the second phone line which is VoIP. The Livebox IS the wireless router and works well all over the house. The whole set-up from Orange is a very good deal!

It could be that the Broadband router is faulty! Take it back and try another one. Or get your money back and get as easier to set up one such as the Netgear.

I have a SMC Barricade and it works pretty well.

John, sorry for delay in replying, but it's been a long haul here! I am now connected using the router, I have altered my browser settings amongst one or two other things on the way and so far so good, I must admit I gave it a couple of days rest before sussing it out! Thanks for helping me with this issue.
