hi folks, just thought id drop by and say hello! newest progress with the mog...
last weekend i fitted a different marina axle, as it had bigger diameter studs(for my new MGF wheels!!) quite exciting for me! also, whilst i had it off, i decided to strip it back, repaint, and put a diff i bought a couple of months ago on.
so...i now am running...
midget 1275, midget 'box, with a marina 3.3 diff. dont know if they are common or not, cost me 100 sterling, and oh my...what a difference! agreed, i've lost a little around town, but i took it on the motorway and i was cruising at silly low revs! quite happy! the diff is white now too, which makes little me happy, along with "red"(looks more orange!) drums. so a shiny axle, and better ratios, happy...YES!
next is raising it back up, its just not as comfortable when you ground it! and also, fit my new maniflow triple branch. rather expensive unit, but looks nice! im easily pleased! ooh...bought a couple of new carbs the last few days...i will let you know how they get on when they get delivered!
just to say...if one comes up, really would say the diff is super...well worth a bid! and 16" wheels...pretty! hehe!
its my new diff...magic!

haha! i know i know! im a waste of space matt! sorry, i WILL get it!
the wheels have 215/40's on them, but i am going to get slightly taller tyres soon as they are smaller then my 185/70/13's that i have on the front! which did kind of defeat the object somewhat! clearance wise, its close to the springs, but you can get a couple of fingers in there, so its all good! wheel nuts, to be honest i dont know! got them with the axle, don't know the thread size or anything! they are horrible things! i think that they are just marina van studs, but i could be/probably am wrong!

What I was getting at is that the MGF wheels I have seen dont have a taper for the nut to seat on, the wheel nuts are a sleve with a thread down the middle (minis use wheelnuts like this for wolfrace type wheels) and they would fit on the minor/marina studs. If your studs are much thicker then they obviously arnt mini wheel nuts!
Whats you plan for the front wheels? If my memory is correct those 16" wheels are "trophy" ones and a 16x7J which might cause you serious headches on the front

ah i see...got ya...right...these are taper fit wheels, so therefore, pretty easy to fit.
if you are saying that MGF nuts fit on marina/minor studs...i am going to cry! as i didnt know! rubbish!
the front...i am looking at some 15" wheels on e-bay at the mo, slightly narrower, so should be good. you can get the same wheels as i have in 15", but i cant see any at the moment. i did have a look at the wheels on the front and indeed they do touch the top trunnion, but i reckon that 195/205 tyres will work...but we will see...

I dont know if the MGF nuts will fit on the studs, I was just wondering if the wheels you had were the sleeved type and if the mini nuts worked
I have 14" Montego rims with 185/65/14 tyres and without a spacer the tyres *just* kiss on the front. I have put in a 3mm spacer but im changing the tyres to 175 soon.
Bear in mind that increasing the sidewall thickness will result in lower rpm cruising but reduced accelleration! With a 3.3 diff I would suggest that you dont increase the profile much!
