differential setting tool

Post by Mogwai »

Hello Iwill be replacing the bearings on a diff soon
Has anyone got the differential setting tool 18G191B
what I would like to know is the size of the setting block A that the pinion height etc is determined from as this dimension is not quoted in the factory manual. I've already taken measurements before dismantling so can replicate them but would like to do it properly

Few would bother with any of this - good diffs are plentiful and cheap!

I may have worked it out. the manual says the block is the standard thickness of the bearings. I calculated the figures with the original bearings & it all tallys up to the original shims fitted & as bearings are manufactured to very tight tolarances hopfuly wont need any shims

Why do it you ask! I had most of the bits anyway & it beats nintendo brain training

For me - there's some things worth doing, and some just not worth the effort - and expense!

Im actualy making one good diff out of two faulty diffs one has a gear problem the other has a noisy pinion bearing at least I will have a spare to keep me going if the need arises & most importantly all for minimal expense
