as jonathon says "needs 15's" I agree and it will probably happen.

thanks for nice comments guys!

I have done a lot of daily miles in it recently and with no problems, except for using a bit of fuel.

I am still putting off taking engine out to sort clutch because I'm enjoying putting on the fault finding miles too much.

Am also having problems getting my head round having the car tuned. My local and trusted rolling road admit to ignorance of su carb'd superchrged cars. Also admit to not keeping many su needles and not being keen on filing needles on rollers.

They on the other hand love anything weber. There are other rolling roads but I dont know who to trust and I dont want to travel too far.

So my thought is that I might make a new inlet up for a dcoe or maybe a dft, wouldn't take too long or cost too much and it would mean I could take it to my local rollers who would have all the jets on the shelf for a little bit of swapping and playing.

I don't think it will make any more power with a weber but it might help in the long run with tune ups.

Hey, I just bought a 48mm side draft dellorto for my moggy,(mazda 12a turbo engine) and have been quoted about £65 for the bits to convert it to be 'boost friendly'. And of course i have to do somehting about the throtle spindle shaft and stop it from leaking boost. Not too sure how i will do all of this bit but will figure out something! If you are doing a draw through ten it should be alot easier to do. I have a couple of 40m down draft dcnf webers fo rsal eif interested??? £80 thr pair delivered.
cheers, michael.

I have now ordered the classic buckets, harnesses and rear cage with diagonal. No going back now. £2K budget is looking tight but hey.

Was very happy this week. I always knew only welding needed on this car was a little bit near the jacking points on the horizontal bit of under sill. We took off the steps and outer trims to find the vertical section of the sills absolutely immaculate with beautiful blue paint on them and covered in waxoyl. No rot in there except the bit I knew about. I always new the shell was good but it is better than I realised.

Welded one side up nicely in a few hours and will do the other side next week some time.

Youtubed as promised.

<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wf0BdiDKw9I"> </param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wf0BdiDKw9I" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

as you see it runs well and whines beautifully.

engine is now coming out to sort clutch, up boost with larger crank pulley, fit dcoe, and polish everything.

hopefully wont take long.

I have been wanting to sort out the niggles for a few weeks now but have been enjoying driving it too much. Now weather has changed it seems a good time to get on with it. It should be out by lunch today.

well progress has been slow this week. The concentric slave cylinder is coming along and I have bought a water pump pulley for a 2002 1.2 16v corsa to use on my crank pulley instead of the sierra twincam alternator pulley that I was using. It should give me 8psi instead of the 5psi I was making. Will also whine more.

I will post about the concentric release bearing in a separate thread.

I am upping the boost pressure because the engine seemed almost un-fussed about the 5psi I was giving it. Who knows maybe it will like it maybe it will go bang, will have to wait and see. Sure will go well though!

well progress is slow at the mo because I have been waiting for 2 new bits to be made by 2 friends.

One friend has just made me the new adaptor to allow me to bolt my new drive pulley to the damped crank pulley so that I can drive the charger a little faster to make more boost.

I am looking for 8 to 9 psi.

picture shows from left to right 1) damped pulley with middle trued up on lathe and three tapped holes to take adaptor. 2) aluminium adaptor that bolts to no 1 with three cap head bolts in counterboard holes. 3) corsa pulley completely standard. 4) my old adaptor and drive pulley to show how much larger the new one is.

My drive pulley is 125mm and the old one was 79mm. I will still be driving the charger slower than on the donor mini cooper s though cos the cooper s uses one of 145mm diameter.

my other friend should hopefully be bringing me my concentric clutch adaptor piece this week as well so should be running early next week again.

Rear roll cage is in with the addition of two welded tabs added to the cage to attach the cage firmly to the door posts by picking up the upper seat belt mounting bolt holes.

well my friend simon has made me the release bearing mount. I have drilled and tapped all the holes and it fits beautifully. When it came it was round and we had to releive it in three places to miss bolts and lugs in the bell housing. The centralising is perfect as both ends are made to be a tight fit.

The bleed and feed pipe come out of a hole that I have had to make in the bell housing at the top.

Image

Just got to make a union to fit the pipe now and the engine can go back in.

Simon has been getting a bit too interested and has gone away to sort my clutch pipe, half hour later he comes back with it all sorted.

Original pipe now has mondeo end on it, fitted, blead, and all good.

I feel a bit like a dog with 5 lamp posts!!

Engine will be in and whining early next week, bring it on!

He is just grinning.

aiming for 120 plus bhp with good torque from 2500rpm.

should be 0 to 60 in sub 8 seconds. sub 7 would be great.

Will hopefully get it on dyno next weekend at a friends garage and then I will either have pub bragg figures or I will go very quiet!

top speed who knows and I certainly dont want to find out.

engine is back in and running.

good news is clutch is a delight.

bad news is we have 10psi boost.

havent driven it as such yet, I am contemplating means of bleeding excess boost off and recirculating what is blead off cos it has fuel in it.

Have rev'd it a couple of times to 6000rpm and my god does it sound ANGRY. It sounds very fruity and sorted I just think it will go bang if I dont regulate it a bit.

Any suggestions for boost control on the cheap or comments as to max boost that I should give this 1293 with low comp van pistons welcome.

Just taxed it today as well and it made a pleasant change to get something for nothing.

I am also currently fitting the buckets and harnesses because I want to go to a meet in the car

Only hope will be a smaller pulley on the drive. 10psi will be fine - for about 10 minutes!

went for a short gentle drive and my god does it go. I would describe performance as on par with a very hot hatch.

Pinking a bit too, will retard timing a bit.

I cut the boost down a little bit by recycling a small amount of boost through a gate valve openend slightly.

I am making a spring loaded release valve fit the inlet manifold piping the released boost back into the inklet after the carb.

Already have the valve with bsp threads both ends and have just got to make if fit.

It wheelspun in second and then went off like a shot, shortshifted at about 4k due to pinking and then calmed down in 3rd and back to workshop, wow.

Point is I am going to regulate the boost but what do we think is the safe limit for a low comp ital van engine (which is basically what I've got).

Ran it yesterday with intention of putting a few moderate throttle miles on it at 8psi, only lasted 3 miles but wow did it go. It spat the headgasket out at the back of the engine. No problem will try it again tomorrow with 6psi.

Image

Shame though cos acceleration up to 5000rpm in 2nd was astonishing. Pinking wasn't noticable but I retarded the timing a lot.

Poor car though I had to limp gently back to the workshop for about 1/2 mile with it complaining and as I went through the town centre I passed nearly every person I knew including my mother who shook her head at me because of what she thought was smoke but was actually steam.

Hopefully it won't mind 6psi, not much up on 5psi that I ran for 1000 miles, but it will have to do.

Interior is in:

Last photo shows blown gasket next to the culprit.
