How many Travellers still on road in UK?

Post by Axolotl »

Well, does anyone know how many of each type of Minor are still on the road in the UK? (Taxed and MOT'd, not SORN?)

I'm interested in Travellers, but any numbers would be handy.

Any thoughts on how I could find out? (Other than asking here?)
Cheers, Axolotl.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I am not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant.

Another one not far from you in Wallingford (1969 Trafalgar Blue) and there is an Almond Green one only a few miles from here in the village of Ipsden

These figures are about 5 years old, but should give a rough idea.

Saloons 16500
Convertibles 1600
Travellers 1700
LCV 4000

I'm a bit surprised at the figures if they're accurate - I don't see ten times as many saloons around as Travellers.

Travellers have gained in popularity over the last five years, I know of a number locally that have been put back on the road. (Mine included).
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

I have to say - at Classic shows in Ecosseland it seems to me the Travellers usually outnumber the saloons - but maybe that's more to do with the type of owner who attends shows!

Another one local to you (near Reading) - if you see a tatty (but now freshly MOT'd -hurrah!) maroon traveller it'll be mine.

Last time I saw a total it was around 35,000 I cant remember exactly when though.
Where did those figures actually come from ? as I agree that it seems unlikely that almost as many convertibles are on the road as Travellers especially when you look at the production figures which I know are not comple but for the last 10 years of convertible production there were 16,563 produced against 154,944 Travellers.

Presumably the DVLA would have all the figures to hand including those on SORN.
Has anyone requested that they supply the data which, I imagine, would be of great interest to the Club for future planning?

I think there are more travellers around than the 1700 stated - but can't remember where I saw the info.
