Seat Belt fraying.

I wonder if anyone else has this problem. I have a 1969 2 door and the seat belts were fitted when I aquired the car. The inertia reel part , that bolts to inner sill is mounted dictly below the "b" post. The top mounting , that the belt runs through is mounted about 4" further back, towards rear of car. This causes the belt to come out of the inertia reel bit at an angle, actually rubbing on the casing, which in turn is causing the belt to fray on the edge that does the rubbing. If I tilt the inertia reel bit to line it up with the top bit, it stops the inertia reel from working. It keeps locking up all the time.

Any remedies?

Only option really Ian will be to move the inertia reel back until it's under the upper mounting. Frayed belts will not pass MOT!

Yes, I know. Trouble is with having Honda seats I will have to cut new belt and have it resewn with new buckles fitted to fit Honda catch on seat.
This looks like OE so does no one else have this problem?
