I've got a 1958 saloon that has no heating at all, i need to use the car daily so need some heating in it! I've looked on the site and heard that the mini heater is a good one to use but i've got no idea what year it should be etc. could anyone help and advise were to get one from?
I've got the mini heater - its very efficient and well worth the money. Its a bit of a fiddle to fit. Mine came from the B'ham Minor Centre. In the winter (I use my car all year round) it defrosts the windows very quickly as well as keeping me warm.
I have a complete later minor heater sitting in the shed doing nothing. But if you really want a mini one try a breakers yard or ebay. Any heater from a mini will do, I think they are the same from mid seventies to early 90's and then you get the (much rarer) twin speed one either should fit
The late Minor heater gives you the same problem with the air intake though... I suppose it would be OK if you're happy to leave the intake off and just have it recirculating (TBH the flap in mine has been stuck in the recirculating position ever since I fitted it).

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
Mini heater can be easily fitted - but not the later (and expensive) 2 speed thing. You will do better to arrange for a fresh air feed - but in first instance just install it for now - and get the fresh air flowing in the summer!
Whatever heater unit you fit, shove a 92 degree thermostat in the engine. That will warm things up nicely. You may need to fit an 88 or 82 degree stat in the summer. Mine has a 92 in all year round with no ill effects.
