To soundproof or not to soundproof

Hi. I've just bought my first ever Morris, a lovely 1968 Traveller. No carpets at present; I'm soon to have these fitted, with the standard underlay. I'm just wondering whether it's worth putting some other form of soundproofing (eg Dynamat pads?) underneath? (I'm going to add a CD/MP3 tuner in due course.) The chap I spoke to about fitting the carpets said he didn't think it would make much difference. What do you think? If I do decide to have this soundproofing, it would obvioulsy be less hassle to put it in at the same time the carpets are fitted.

the carpets will help a lot, but you'll still get noise through the bulkhead. results seem to be 50/50 on its merits.
Have heard people succesfully use the B&Q thick faomy rubber underlay under the carpets which helps apparently.

HI - i've got the sound- deadening on the bulkhead of my traveller and the special underlay (helps baffle the sound) under the carpet and I'm told my traveller is a lot quieter than others (inside of course!) It's a bit fiddly to fit (against the bulkhead) but comes with special pins which help.

Google 'Noise killer' its industry standard sound deadening as used by Range Rover. we use the foil backed (dynamat) type material which is expensive but a 1/3 the cost of Dynamat, we also use the space layer mat. its very effective indeed especially if used on the roof panels, traveller ally panels, floors arches etc. We double lay the bulkhead which is where most noise is transmitted. Be prepared to spend around £300 on material, plus your time to strip out and refit. we will have a few cars at the National with this material fitted if you wish to see before you buy.

I put stick on sound deadening pads on the bulkhead then fitted thick sound deadening material similar to the original one & made sure all gromets & holes in bulkhead were sealed. this has made a big difference & i havn't fitted the carpets yet

I have what looks like recycled wool 3/4" sound deadening mats. Would these be suitable for the bulkhead. I doubt that it is at all fireproof?!?

Only fit this if you can be sure the car will remain 100% dry inside. If soundproofing gets wet -it's the devil to dry it out!
