Surely you don't want to leave your car uninsured for 6 months of the year? What about theft, fire or other damage that could occur whilst garaged?
My car tends to spend a couple of months in the winter not being driven but I wouldn't dream of leaving it uninsured for that period.
However if you want to risk it you could pay for a years insurance and then cancel it after 6 months and get a refund for the remaining 6 months. All insurance companies offer this service.

It will be less expensive from RH - but I doubt they will wear 6 months insurance for one car. I do add my second classic to my RH policy for the 6 summer months and they are happy to do that - but the main policy runs for all 12 months - for about £80 with free roadside assistance and home recovery - not a bad deal really!
