JOGLE 2008

Not far away now, anyone on here doing it? Seriously considering it myself - going to have a chat with Dad about it tonight

I think the car would do as many miles in a few days as it did last year - assuming it completed the run

There are only 2 things stopping me from committing to the LEO run;

-not sure I could have the time as the main family holiday is quite close at August 30th

-not sure I could afford the combination of accomodation and fuel

Youth Hostels and camping help to reduce the accommodation costs. You shouldn't use much more fuel than you would on the JOGLE.

I did the last JOGTLE in 2006 and it was merger fun. It has to go on every ones bucket list. You will love it.

I would like to do the Leo run but it’s the time off factor with me too.
Another good run is the roses run in September if you want to test the car. I never knew hill so steep existed until I did this run. Its organised by some good lads as well. This all adds to two very enjoyable nights out if you want to stop over.

I not saying the Leo run is not fun and run by good lads by the way Judge it looks and sound good to me just the time off as I said.

John O'Groats to Lands End

It might be worth mentioning the Barnsley J,O,G,L,E is an endurance run it sets off from John ‘O’ Groats at 11am and you have 24 hours to get to Lands end. When we did the run we arrived in Lands End at about 6am. The first car to arrive arrived at 1am but he never stopped at all only I guess for fuel. New I think they have included a mandatory stop in B,Ham.

I'll be doing it again. Combined it with the honeymoon last time, so turned it into a holiday.... It's good fun, and any half decent Minor can do the distance, and there's plenty of folk to help if you do get problems. If your car can get to the start you shouldn't have a problem with the rest of it!
(The Birmingham stop, was to make it clear to the occaisional entrant, who, lets say, got a little carried away with seeing how fast they could do the run, that its not a speed event! And its a good break, chance to meet folk, have a brew and buy some spares if you want... Where else can you buy moggy bits at 1am!).
I'd reccomend the Roses Run too - a cracking country drive, and hopefully, I'll get to do the LEO too. Long Distance Minor runs rock!

Just an open note to anyone who is doing the jogle and thinking of popping over to the islands before it starts - whilst your in that neck of the woods so to speak.
Anyone needs somewhere to put up tent, use garage, tools etc then always welcome at the mad house

The LEO can be done without too much time off work!
I did the Lands end part in a weekend, then back to work before doing the Orkney stretch!

As for the JOGLE - it's fun but I'm not sure I'll do it again. Setting off late morning in Scotland means that you drive most of the south part of the journey in the dark.
If it was run the other way round starting at LE, then you could do the entire run in daylight (midnight sun in north scotland).

Having done the JOGLE and the LEO, the fuel cost is practically the same, but the cameraderie on the LEO wins as there's more time to socialise. I've done both on tight budgets by sleeping at friends houses and/or camping (i.e. without a single hotel bill)

I'll have a word with the wife. Both self employed so time is is difficult to arrange... Wanted to do it last year but she was ill a few weeks before and work had backed up a lot etc etc...

Thats very good of you Orkney! I've always fancied a run over there, looks a lovely place.

Good to hear your thoughts Ray on both trips. My Dad is not keen on doing either I don't think (doesn't like driving far) so I am looking at getting my brother insured on the Minor as he may be more keen. Not so much an issue for the LEO but the Jogle needs 2 drivers of course.

Just ordered some new seat straps and foam just in case a long run does happen

Well anyones welcome to turn up and bung up a tent year round.

Its a long drive even in a modern car when your in a hurry, and if your going it alone you need trust in your motor, a good tool kit & as many spares as you can think of
