The Old Timer Comes Back

Sorry to say (for me) I rarely post, because as a modified owner I find that there is a lot of recycled arguments and generally a lot of negatve comment about modified with a view that "old is best". My apologies but that is the way I feel and I apologise if you disgaree.

Anyway I had a competition to compete in recently, totally unrelated to cars, and I had to get up early and bring a whole lot of people. So (allowed under new English rules ) I asked my parents if I could swap cars. Mine being a modded moggy there's being a nice new car.

Come the early morning I loved the simple start, defrost and room to put everyone's bag (my parent have an estate). It was a great day (won trophy) and to get in to a warm modern car was lovely.

This morning I took the car back to my parents, and what had my father done? bearing in mind he is 70 years old. He'd taken my moggy out for a "serious burn up" (of which it is more than capable).

What could I say? Given my parents had bought the car new in 1966, and given it to me. With my father a time served engineer, welder and pattern maker, helping with the modifications. But ask "what had he managed to burn off?"

What I fantastic thing for me that my father had wanted to take the moggy out for a run for no other reason than to have a bit a fun and use the car for what we had built it, burning off hot hatches. I was really pleased that he had taken the opportunity and given it a "burn". As for me? The weather was really cruddy today, but honestly I was more that happy to be back behind the wheel of my moggy and driving "her"home.

Great story. Nout wrong with modifications, from brake mods to mild tuning to full blown in yer face V8.

I'd rather drive my Moggy than the boring VW Eurobox anyday.

As I said it is my own perception from the posts that I have read (personally) rather than anything specific that I find a rather negative comment overall.

I just felt the constant need to defend a corner and it became a drag. Sorry but thats the way I have felt about the whole MMOC and the forum as well.

Welcome back Wal. I do hope that on reading more recent posts that your perception will now be changed, and that you will become a regular again.

The forum is for all Minor enthusiasts whatever their particular area of interest.

What? Its yours do what you like, respect to the people who spend hours polishing bits of their cars nobody sees, but thats pointless to me, mines built to enjoy and turn heads, in fact I quite like winding up the 'I know every british car ever built' type with mine!
All original parts, not necessarily put together in the right order.

i thikn thats a lovley story dad thrashes the nuts off a moggie and burns up all the kids in there nova 1.0s with wide carlos fandgo super wide wheels with large exhaust and stero to match,i just think thats a great story
