Not my idea of fun

Post by Peetee »

Lying on my back in the cold drafty gale force wind using a mini drill (left handed because of the space restriction - even though I'm right handed) with 1/2" disc to grind away the washer and nut on a worn out tie bar. I've just had a cuppasoup indoors and I've got about 2 hours left to do some more work but I'd like to thaw out first.
Still it's for the greater good, eh Albert?
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Yeh I sometimes question my sanity even though I work in a heated garage with laminate flooring to keep me off the cold concrete floor. I bought a car crawler to make getting under the car easier. Thing is it's on four castors, and when you lever at a tight nut with the spanner, the car crawler spins round :o

If the car is wet underneath, the one drip that falls is guaranteed to go in your eye, or if your wearing eye protection, it will drip into your ear. If you wear ear protectors, you miss that important phone call, and in any case, the drip will now find it's way down your neck.

It's the ghosts of ex car builders I think, or Murphys law. Oh and if I had a quid for everytime I've caught my head on that bl**dy bonnet I'd be a rich man.

Still it keeps me out of the pub :D

Speaking as one who's working on dismantling a rusty engine outside in a car port with the gales blowing rain all over me ATM - sympathy. FREEZING, isn't it

Tennis ball with a hole in it stuck on the springy thingy helps 8)

Ive mostly worked outside for all time, in fact its only thanks to the Mog that now have a nice garage which is nearly finished (just the floor to concrete).
16ft x 16ft of luxury
Have already started the extentions to it as well - which will be lean to carport pergola type things on one side and the back. These will be 12ft wide and covered in the clear scaffold cladding i used on the greenhouse. And will have sides so be nice and cosy.
Means there will space for 2 more cars completely out of the weather - cant wait :-) (and fortunately have all the materials for that so dont have to save up )

One day hopefully :-) It's quite neccessary though, weather up here is a lot worse than down south and subsequently you really do need somewhere out of it to work in.
On reflection should have built a barn before starting the house restoration, when i add up all the tools and things stored in temporarily built sheds that have got ruined by the weather it would have been cost effctive.
Not to mention i guess the single biggest luxury of the garage is actually having a place to keep things - it hasnt been unknown to waste half a day looking for something around here, so just being able to go find whats needed in a moment is the most satisfying bit.
Once the floors in its getting a pc out there - only thing it will be lacking is draft carlseberg - if i ever get that i'll put a stove in, bung up a hammock and live in there :-)

Amongst your selection of equipment I bet there is a sack barrow hiding somewhere and if not sneak it into your bedroom mark you if I tried that instant death would follow...........................................

Brilliant idea. Great thing about this Forum, wee tips crop up from time to time that I would never have thought of. Off to source a tennis ball and stanley knife. Better look out the elastoplasts while I'm at it. :D

I am going to keep very, very quiet about hiding in the garage away from the wind and rain, occasionally poking another log into the stove...
