BMW 1602

Post by nugget »

Hi Guys,

I restore morris travellers in my spare time...I got given a real nice BMW 1602 in payment for a morris restoration I did for a friend - trouble is that I cant find any in similar condition to get an idea of how much it's worth - anyone out there that could help give a valuation - I know it's very hard without seeing the car but I'll try and desacribe as best as posible - also where is best place to sell this car (not ebay please)

1971 1602 (round rear lights) in beige

Interior is MINT

exteria - there is some surface rust bubles in places but nothing that couldnt be fixed in a weekend or two with some colour matched paint. there is a small dent in passenger door. All chrome in good contion. original BMW wheel hubs.

It's missing nothing !! MOT is due soon but I'll get it through another before I sell it so consider 12 months MOT (it will fly through)

Genuine 77900 miles, service history up to 66K and all (lots) reciepts and MOTs since 66K to prove mileage is true !!! The engine is faultless, no tappet noise or rumbles. Comes with 2 sets of original BMW keys, original sales brochure, 2 books and haynes manual.

It would be an extremely easy job to get this up to a very high standard. I've already got a morris traveller in bits in the garage so dont have the time or space for this baby -

Cheers

I will give you £50 for it:)

Not sure how much it would be worth, try practical classic forum, they have quite a large amount of people on there now.

Sounds really a nice car.

Hey Tickman - £50 deposit is acceptable, that will hold it for a month while you get the other £2000 together???? .......... ;)

Thanks - I'll the the PC forum, it's tricky when you dont know how much something is worth and not much to gauge it against.

It really is a good car - much more modern to drive than my traveller of the same year (shouldn't say that here though should I) but still rather be tooteling around in a moggie

Whats the underside of the BMW like?? any nasty patches / rusty areas. 70's Beemers were notoriously bad rusters.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Chicken John - There is no patches / rusty parts underneath, only a couple of very small surface bubbles on the paintwork.

I think the PC price guide might be out of date looking at ones that have sold previously (1602s not more popular 2002) average ones have been over 2k and minters 4-5k - the PC guide is what has started to get me confused, just looking to see if anyone has experience of selling one lately and will be honest with the condition??

Sounds like it's between Condition 1 and 2 with a fairly low mileage for the year, although the tappets can be a problem with that engine at those mileages. Hard to say without giving it the once over, but I would estimate about £2,100 to £1,975
