Traveller door hinges

Post by millerman »

Slowly re-building Traveller :D

Should there be gaskets under the hinges, if so use gasket paper to make or buy from usual suppliers?

No, the hinges shouldn't have gaskets AFAIK.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Again, I don't think so. Never seen one with a gasket

hinges

If, despite your best efforts you find it impossible to align the doors properly then you will probably have to fashion suitable gaskets to help.
If your hinges had no gaskets then the car was in good shape. After a rebuild that is often not the case!

Thanks for replies.
I was of the opinion that a suitable paper gasket would prevent staining/making of the wood by the hinge rusting.

hinge rusting.
Pretty sure they are made of some kind of alloy casting, so rust shouldn't be a problem. Never seen a gasket on a Traveller door hings.

Nope, they are steel. The ones on the back of mine had a nice rusty coating which I blitzed

Mine has gaskets on the door timbers only - look like rubber, guess 1.5mm thick.

Never had any gaskets on any of the rear doors of the Travellers I have owned.

Yes - mine have composition/rubber gaskets. Handy tip by the way - if the doors are sagging on the balls - put a small nylon washer under each ball to lift the ball in the hinge socket.
