wiring

Post by FrankM83 »

HI all two questions

1) I passed the wiring, the engine started but the ign light is remaining on did I wire something wrong or left anything out?

2) witht he loom came a separate piece of wire which are actually 3wires in a 'rubber tubing' blue/white,blue, blue/red on one side its slider and the other is bullets any idea what this is for? Thanks

Red light - is it dynamo or alternator? Check with a voltmeter (looking for 14 volts DC) - but I suspect it's not charging the battery.

I fitted an alternator, the loom came ready for alternator but the wiring diagrams are nto that helpful with differing wire colours form the new loom to the diagrams so I'm trying to understand what did I fit wrongly or did I miss

I assume then you have removed the old dynamo control box ? You should have thick brown wire to the large terminal on the alternator - this is the main 12 volt +ve bus, and then a smaller wire to the small terminal on the alternator. Over the years there have been some different colours for that wire - it comes directly from the red light and could be brown with black trace or brown with yellow trace which is more usual. Other side of red light should be white wire. It's always possible of course that you could have mixed up the bulb holders - and it's not really a red light at all!

Hmm well the loom had a what looks like a 3 way connector plug with tree wires one thick and 2 smaller wires that fit in the alternator, to be honest I have a brown/yellow wire which I have not connected as this looks like it ends on the oil filter and I'm assuming this is the blocked oil filter sensor as this wire goes to a bulb holder in the speedo which is extra as the oil filter light is blanked

Odd - because alt plug does sometimes have 3 wires - but should be 2 x thick brown (large spade) and 1 x brown/yellow (small spade) for the ign warning. Oil filter blocked warning wire should be green with yellow tracer. Maybe they are mixed up in the plug ?
