Hello from Down Under

I have just bought myself a 1950 Morris Minor MM 2 door lowlight (first time Morrie owner here). Any tips for a newbie owner / driver would be much appreciated. Paperwork I received with the car shows it was shipped as a CKD (completely knocked down) kit car in June 1950, Chassis number SMM/50467, Engine number 31076. Other paperwork I have shows it was restored in the 90's. Original side valve engine. Have one silly question already, where and how do I check transmission fluid? I plan to use this car as my daily driver, would like some opinions there too :roll: Any other Aussie Lowlight owners out there?

That looks in fabulous condition. There can't be many lowlights still being used as daily drivers! Of course that's exactly what they were designed to do.

Welcome, that's one seriously great car. :D

To check transmission fluid, lift passenger side carpet, and there is a rubber bung in the floor. Remove that and there will be a gearbox dipstick visible.

think that's wrong for cars with the sidevalve gearbox. The workshop manual says:

your lucky with side valve, just in front of the gear lever under the carpet there is a wee kidney shaped panel with nut in it. remove the panel and you get a filler and a dip stick!!!!! Side valve gear boxes use hp90 oil not engine oil. really nice car by the way.

yep i really miss the homeland during the winter months too. Nice looking car. A friend of mine was telling me on the phone a few weeks ago about one of his friends thathas just bought the oldest moggy in oz. Apparently it was in a state but he is restoring it.
I do like the lowlights front ends too, nice loo to them.

Thanks for all the useful info :) Really quite hard to find anything much on the internet for the basic stuff.

Summer, Summer weather - whats that? its dull overcast and cold here - my Sister lives in Mt Martha (Melbourne) and complains it's a bit hot! Chance would be a fine thing. Enjoy it that's what I say!

Has been pretty mild here the last few days...not lookin forward to the wet weather with the slow windscreen wipers on the Morrie!!
