Back axel rot

Post by youngun »

The spring mounting plates, where the rubber pads and u bolts go on, on my back axel are rusted through in some places, what should i do here?

Thanks

Either repair them, make new ones and fit them, or find another axle, I'd say :(

Do you mean the small removable (~2mm thick) sandwich plates that the u bolts pass through (4 small holes for the u bolts and one bigger hole in centre) or the mountings actually welded to the axle?

If the first one, they are available for a few quid IIRC as are the rubbers, and if the latter, then follow Bigingers advice.

A picture will tell all.

If its one of these Image

They are available for a tenner or so. carefully measure the position of the existing mount before cutting it off and welding the new one on.

I'm guessing they are not intended for the Minor axle - but will lokely be fine! The little tab with small hole is not Minor related. Are they for Marina/Ford axle conversions ?
