big end and main bearing bolts

Post by XDB »

The bolts on the 1098cc engine I have dismantled don't have tabs to lock them in.They appear to have a tapered seat. The engine is a silverseal replacement unit if that means anything to anyone place.[img]
can they be reused with something like threadlock, or are they to be used just once

I degrease em, and wire brush em, blow the holes out with the airline, then re-fit em with threadock.

Not had any fall out yet :D

Yes - they will be fine - weren't even threadlocked in as standard - but a few spots on the threads will be a good idea. I used them many times on Mini engines without problems.

But they had (useless) locking tabs as standard, didn't they?

The old bolts would have had - but the newer design are 'self locking', although I always add some Loctite!
