Speedo rezeroing
Hi all I dismantled the speedo face to rezero the odometer is there a fast way to turn the speedo bk to 0? rather than just turning that small white wheel on the side of the numbers one by one! also is it a good idea to rezero the speedo after a total rebild of the engine? Thanks

They're tenths of a mile.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

It is sometimes possible to nudge the other wheels away from the one you want to zero to allow the one wheel to be turned around however you need to make sure it stops in the correct position and its rather fiddly to do.is there a fast way to turn the speedo bk to 0?
Cheers

think i'm with bm leave it as it is, the milage isn't just about the engine its about the whole car, brakes, electrics etc The practice is frowned upon in uk since it could be used as a deception upon selling the car(Not that any Minor owner would of course). Most modern odometers are tamper proof for this very reason. If I was buying a car I would rather see the actual milage plus proof of engine rebuilds at a certain milage rather than be told that it was zeroed after a rebuild.Just my opinion.

Speedo carries a serial number. MOT garages notify DVLA of speedo readings at each MOT. Technicaly, if you cannot produce a receipt for a new speedo being fitted, and the numbers don't add up, you can be done for 'clocking' the car if you sell it.
Easy to break it into the bargain, best just to make a note in the history file of mileages when major components replaced, engine/gearbox etc.

OK thanks guys for the advise,we don't have that mileage thing over here in Malta yet what we have is unorganised VRT (MOT) my friend in an MM went to a garage for the VRT, his car didn't pass cause of surface rust in the chassis but otherwise OK he was told, so he tried another garage this time he passed but was forced to fit windscreen washers! on a 51MM! unbeleivable!
