Unfortunately I must agree with you. As I have said before, it seems that many owners prefer to talk about, or work on their cars, rather than enjoy them.

Use it or lose it?

Now where did I put that VW Club application form

Hi there,

I've not picked up my moggie yet, but I'm interested in joining for at least part of this - holiday-wise I might have to play catch up, but as I'm based in the southwest I could do the Landsend to Exeter bit on day 1 and catch up later in the week. Put me down as a maybe.

We've been looking at our route, trying to
a) avoid motorways
b) visit / pass through places we haven't been or want to see. Or friends we haven't seen for a while.
c) keep to around 200 miles (ish) a day.

We've discussed (Mrs E and me) stopping in
1) North somerset (near midsomer norton (friends and beer)
2) Lincoln (so we can drive that long roman road up to Coventry and we've never been to lincoln, sad I know)
3) Durham (ish because my family live round the corner from Beamish) probably for a day to look around Beamish if possible.
4) Dundee area
5) somewhere in Aberdeenshire (via arbroath and a coastal route)
6) hurrah, orkney

Should we be booking ferries now, and how long are people staying on orkney, will there be an "official" route (we'll probably tag along for that, but may stray a little in places).

I use my car for 2-300 miles a week, so it's quite (touch wood) reliable, although due a service. Any "long distance in a Minor" tips?

Easton Junior will be along for the ride also, so I may have to fit a radio before then! Although the LCD DVD player may have to wait.

Andrew (sorry for the long post)

I haven't finalised my suggested route for this year's run yet, but it was hoped that within reason everyone would follow this. It would also be hoped to meet up in the evenings, if possible, for a meal. At the end of this, as last year, we would all try to take the same ferry to Orkney on the Saturday, and join up at the show on the Sunday.

Would you be happy with this?

2 routes ? one for speed one for scenery? be difficult to make the stopovers the same though :-(
Or 1 route & maybe people could catch up and tag along for a bit?
See you when you get off the ferry as usual :-)

Still waiting for a few more suggestions/requests really Kevin. It's now less than 7 months away.

Have we thought about taking the A82 up in Scotland?
That seems a nice route?

We might need some advice from Roy to get round Glasgow though!

I came back that way last year, and yes I would like to see Glen Coe again (as featured in my signature picture).

The road past Loch Ness was annoyingly slow thanks to all the tourists in big white motor homes and roads that were too bendy for safe overtaking.

i think if we stick as close to one route sheet/map etc it will make things easyer, for meeting up etc plus if anybody has a failure, there will be some welcome advice from each other
regarding the ferry i think if one of us could book it then we all pay our own share we will all arrive together.
any other ideas?

(personaly i think the most scenic route is going to be best and yes lets avoid motorways as much as possible) :D

Right, as it seems that we have no more entrants or suggestions, I will be posting my suggested route/visits in the very near future.

It seems that I might be in a new job by then, so I can't commit anymore :( even if I stay where I am I wont be able to come because someone had booked the time before I started!

You can move me to definite. I'm still not technically booked into the holiday calendar, however my boss (who is in charge of all holiday bookings) has verbally assured me twice that I can have the time off.

Should be fine by then thanks anyway Alex - body panels coming off any day now for the grand tidy up.
Happy with all mechanics now apart from gearbox but wont be doing that this year due to lack of funds. Likewise why i wont be able to get to the national :-(
Was going to replace drivers door but decided to 'attempt' repair first.
Budget for the job = 1 tin of paint & lots of elbow grease :-)

I'm thinking that will definitely head down to Inverness day before you lot get that far, do some shopping, stay at Aviemore overnight then tag along back upto the ferry (after the obligatory KFC & BK binge :-) of course)

So Bill can put me as a definite definite for that leg - think its needed to inspire me to get on with the tidy up !
