Oh, believe me it's not. There's junk everywhere and everything's still covered with dust from when I did the respray. I'm planning to have a huge clean and tidy session later this week.

Oh I think that plug in the side of the diff will be fine. Best choice really.

I have a similiar question:
Is it possible to fit a 4.22 crownwheel & pinion in 4.55 diff?
This is since I live in Sweden and it would be to heavy to send a complete diff unit.
The car has already been converted to 1098cc engine and gearbox.
does the Austin A40 with the 1098cc used the same diff?

Yes - A 40 is the same. You could change crown wheel/pinion - but they need careful setting up to get the gears meshing correctly together. You have to ask yourself if the hassle will be worth the small saving in revs!
