S11 or 1000

Post by Sidney'61 »

Just a thought...
Does anyone know if the insurance would be any different if you had a minor 1000 with an original 1098 engine or if you had a 'modified' S11 with a 1098?

just wondering as they are both the same engine but you know what insurance companies are like about modifications.

Common insurance response is if a mod is for safety (eg better brakes) the premium remains the same. If it's a power boost the price goes up for most but not all insurance quotes. Only answer is to phone around, but stick to classic car insurance companies.

Doubt it will make any difference - just say you have fitted an engine from a later model of Minor - and then let slip later that it's 1098 cc when giving the details.

I upgraded my SII to 948 engine, diff and gearbox when the original 803cc engine died a death, and my insurers didn't alter the premium at all. I'm not sure if they'd have dealt with it differently had it been a 1098 I'd put in though. All they seemed interested in was whether or not the new engine had actually come from another Minor. You might well find it makes no difference to the price.

It does make a difference. But it depends.
The insurers use a rule (was it 30% more capacity?) to determine how high the premium is.

As I said before, from 803 running gear to 948 running gear in an early series 2 DOES NOT make a difference in any way, shape or form with my insurer!

Made no difference to my insurance when I added my series II fitted with 1098 running gear. To my existing insurance all 3 cars on the same policy although it did increase slightly when I fitted 1275 engine in my traveller around 10%. Last year it was around £125 for the 3 vehicles from footman james.
