Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Pretty sure it's a B series tractor diesel - good idea!! However looking at it again - it does look more like A series - and there were some diesel A series engines used on a small Tractor - dunno if it was built at Bathgate ?

It is an A series diesel. I never knew it was made. I found this photo and others while browsing at Ausmini.

It is a good read and gets the imagination going.

Hi,

It could be a BMC 1500 diesel, half the boats on the Norfolk Broads use them. Not sure how much longer than an A series they are but always look surprisingly short when you look at one.

36 or 44hp I think, you would need to change the gearing a bit to get more than about 30mph at max engine revs, probably pull a heavy trailer quite well though!

Lots of pictures of these engines installed in boats, they do look like an a diesel A series.

That's the one - although never turbo-charged in BMC's days ! As you say 10852sm - the revs will be very limited -so not really a Motorway cruiser!
