ah yes. The headling is a tough one.
I left that front plywood piece in place when doing mine. I believe it is held in by clips, so if you try and pull it out, they are just digging in further into the wood.
I just ripped the old headlining out front under it, and any bits left i cut off using a stanley knife.
Unscrew the plastic light cover, and disconnect the wires at the terminals. Put some tape over the ends so they dont short out. Remove the light fitting altogether and stuff the wires up inside the hole out of the way for now.
You'll find that the wires run from under the dashboard to the back of the car along the channels above the doors. If you remove the back seat, and then the trim panels either side you'll find the other end of the wire. Its also screwed down behind the trim panel at the top of the door pillar between the front and rear doors.
Make a note of the order that the rods go in. They are DIFFERENT LENGTHS! I hadn't noticed this until i put them in the new headlining in the wrong order.
Theres another wire around the rear window. It screws down underneath, and there are hooks all around the screen. These can be prised up a little to get the cloth out.
Thread the metal rods into the new headcloth, and then the wires around the perimeter. Remember that there needs to be enough each side to reach the screws. If you find you've left the wrong amount of wire each end (like i did) you can tie on the guitar string to extend them!
Put the new cloth into the car, and bend each rod into place. Its best to try and get them roughly in the correct place so you dont have to slide them down the channels and risk tearing the new cloth.
Make sure there is enough material to reach to the front of the car. I used an old store card to tuck it under the plywood. Shift the rods about until its not sagging.
The rear window can be a pain to get right. Its difficult to get the last rod further enough back to stop the material creasing either side of the window.
Pull the wires up tight and screw them down, and dont cut the hole for the interior light until you're satisfied that its in the position you want it.
Make sure you're hands are clean too, and cut your finger nails so you don't end up tearing it.

Look at http://www.morrisminoroc.co.uk/index.ph ... pic&t=2014 for how to remove the wood section.
Haven't heard how the last person went with this, but it works for me!!!
