Gaaah grr fnhhh - to all Minors with seized suspension bits

Post by rayofleamington »

Just venting my spleen!
I am trying again to remove the nearside front torsion bar from the pick up. The arms are seized on their splines and the eyebolt is seized into the chassis leg. After an hour this afternoon I've managed to free up the rear C-washer. I've never given up and used the angle grinder to remove a stubborn torsion bar (and promise I never will) but I can see why some people get tempted.
Why oh why do I forget how tough it can be to dismantle a rusty car that's not been in bits for many decades... and then get rid of them after doing all the hard work! Maybe this time I'll get rid of it before nearly killing myself in the process

Anyway - I'm off to look for a Fiat starter motor as a short distraction before refilling my eyed and ears with dirt and rust flakes.

Give it a spray and walk away - will look different another day !
Saves time, frustration and helps keep you sane (well except in your case as your already borderline    )
Took as long to learn to walk away from problems on cars for the day as it did to realise that inflicting physical damage on a computer just wont fix its problems 8)

Lots of heat and Plus gas will do the trick. In desperation get someone in with Oxyacetylene, then will heat it up enough to free it off.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Yup, heat and a big lump hammer 2 days after Plus Gas or Diesel in a spray bottle. Plus of course a few choice words as used by mechanics World wide. :D

It's had release fluid once a week for a few weeks now - today was the turn of the BIG hammer! (There was no point putting it back together with non existant eye bolt bushes). I'd even got as far as trying a different penetrating fluid.

I have mild headache, but at least it came off before I rearranged the chassis too much...

At least this side can get rebuilt now so that I can get it out of the garage tomorrow to get one or two of other cars in (they're all broken)

Can't wait to do the other side

Seized parts is natures way of telling you off for being too cocky!
When I changed my trunnnions they all went fine appart from one top one which just would not come off the lever arm.
Spent longer freeing off that one pin than I did doing the whole job up to that point.
Perseverence always wins in the end. :D
What would Macgyver do..?
