Any ideas which 123 ignition to buy?

Hi everyone, Happy New Year and all that.

I am looking to buy an uprated distributor/electronic ignition and considering the 123 ignition which has been talked about on some mini forums. Howeverm I am not sure which one I need. I have an ital 1275 A+ with HIF 44 carb. I have emailed the manufacturer but not had a reply. The options are here:

Anyone got any experience with these and know which one is needed? I was thinking it would be (Artikelnummer: 485462) OR the mini one (Artikelnummer: 485507)?

Crickey wouldnt spend that sort of money with a company who cant be bothered to answer a question, if they are as interested in your enquiry when something goes wrong then it might be a bad omen

Kirsten are you after a new dizzy built with electronic ignition or one of the ones with the adjustable curves, as I would have thought that Aldon are the people to speak to as they do dizzys for both A series and A+ so can supply either drive.

The other people to speak to are Retro Rockets
I know they do a complete system for the pre A+ (as I have one and much cheaper then UK prices and they supply Aldon with the electronic parts) but I am not sure about the A+ engine.

Hi both, thanks for the replies: Kevin, the 123 ignition has been talked up a lot on sites such as minifinity as it has 16 adjustable curves and is a pretty easy swap - things like the Alden yellow have a fixed curve which is a best guess curve. I think BMC has some knowledge of the 123 as he mentioned it on a different thread - the 123 just looks like a hassle free but nice adjustable bit of kit...

The 123 seems to be an excellent dizzy - just buy one that suits your dizzy clamping arrangement on the block! The resident expert seems to be one 'curta crankn daddy' the spaces are important, and yes an odd name - but hey ho! - on Minifinity. He recently ran a thread including the different advance curves available - and without a doubt he has been heavily involved in the development of this dizzy. One of the curves is 'said' to be exactly the Aldon yellow. The advantage is that with the 123 you have 16 different curves to choose from - this, combined with different settings of the static advance will cover 99% of all engine requirements. Buy an Aldon - and you have just that one curve built in which is highly unlikely to be just right for your engine. SCparts are probably on Christmas hols ! But they do seem to be cheapest place to buy -although I have also seen the dizzy on ebay -new and unused with buy-it-now price.
As soon as there is a 123 for my TR7 - i'll be getting one! My Minor doesn't do enough miles to justify the cost.
If (when) you do get one Kirsten - please report back with your experience of this seemingly excellent piece of kit!

BMCEcosse, the obvious solution is to sell the TR7 and spend the money on the moggy!

Thanks for all the help guys. I have located the correct part and it looks like SCparts are the cheapest (they got back to me in the end - probably a Christmas thing). Minifinity sell them but they are about £30 more expensive! I'll let you know about the results when as and when - it will be back to the rolling road if I fit one.

Well done - but i would try out all the curves on the road before going to the RR.
And no Mr hickup - if Beloved gets her way, the Minor will be sold and the TR7 retained. My plan is to retain both - they each have their separate charms. Whether I should retain Beloved is another matter entirely!
