Headlights
Hi and happy new year,
I'm planning to make the indicators on my '61 minor slightly less obvious so what I am planning to do (and i've seen it done before) is wire up the indicators into where the sidelights should be and hopefully have the sidelights wired into the main headlight unit, but theres one problem... is it easy to wire the sidelights into the headlight unit or is there anywhere I can by them like that?
Thanks

You can use a halogen headlamp kit with integrated pilot light:

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

You can use a stop/tail lamp and have a white flasher like the ones fitted in 1962 & 1963. All you need is 2 deep fitting bulb holders and the headlights can be left as is!! I bought a complete lamp, rubber body, chrome ring and white glass new off ebay for £9.00 post included.
Too many Minors so little time.....

Ok, thanks guys, I'll consider the possibilities
Yes I thought about using mini lights but I think all the minis used 5" headlight units whereas the minor ones are 7"Matt wrote:Just so you know... mini's use that setup with the sidelight being a pilot light even on sealed beams and it shines through a "window"

You can get orange bulbs to go in the side light holders . I changed mine for the slightly later type with the bigger window on the front and got orange bulbs off ebay.
At the back I fitted indicators under the bumper and fold them up out of sight when I go to shows!

Some very good ideas there Roger, I don't think I'll be doing this work for a while so I might come and inspect your car at the next rally and copy if you don't mindRogerRust wrote:You can get orange bulbs to go in the side light holders . The sidelight to indicator conversion is what I did but it's not as straightforward as I first thought. I had to change the mount bases to two pole to match the bulbs - then found the retaining pins on the orange bulbs were asymetric not parallel and had to find orange bulbs to suit (halfords 'bling' rang of bulbs of all things!). Still the end result is worth it.

Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
