What is the correct way to get a car registered if for example you have a barn find that has lost its documents? A friend of mine has a good body shell he was given by a widow with no plates or reg number. How can he get it registered legally?

I'd like to know that one too Rog, was of the impression that you could get a previosly unreleased age related plate but not sure how you would prove the provenance of the car?
Well not quite the same but Dad bought a tractor (1983 Marshall 302) from work.
It had never been registered as it never left the industrial site it worked on. All he needed was a letter from the relevent club which tied the chassis no. of his Tractor to the age it should be, then he spent an hour at Birmingham licensing Depot to get a V5. then once that was sorted he got some plates and insurance and (no MOT's on tractors) away he went.
I'm led to believe that Cars are similar but you need to have as much provenance as possible to get the age related or you could end up with a non transferable Q plate. If you have no provenance i'm not sure what you do. Best to try and talk to Rob in the club.

I've emailed seller pointing out there is "interest" and he is basically offering a ringing kit.
I advised he return MAT V5 to DVLA noting that as scrap and then altering auction to state saloon conversion using genuine convertible parts.
Lets see he he listens - but as normal I doubt it.
As for a car without any ID, a heritage certificate might prove year of manufacture as the chassis number should be stamped into the bulkhead below the wiring loom. You can MOT a car on a chasis number and then it can be inspected by a club official on behalf of DVLA. I think the form is V765.
Dad bought a BSA a few years ago with no documents or details and had to tax, mot and insure the bike all on the chasis number, then was inspected and some time later an age related number arrived, then all the documents had to be altered to the new number....
I got great help from the National club and also my local branch to get the original number back for the lowlight as it had been off the road so long it wasnt on the computer. Luckily I had an old mot dated 1973, got a heritage cert, reg checked out as only having been issued for a few months in 1950 and it all added up!!! Great, just have to get my new number plates made up!

The sensible thing to do in my opinion rather that alter the wording of the auction.
Hopefully the seller will relist and get a sale soon based on the correct identity.
