Driving back from a failed mot is ok except where the tester has indicated that the failure is due to the vehicle being in a dangerous condition,Then you have the problem of getting it sorted there or trailored home. If it has failed on minor things then the faults are there when you drive to the centre and there when you drive back home to repair them so same difference.If you couldn't drive back home every MOT failure would be laid up at the centres or a very busy car trailoring business would be in existance.Don't know how many cars fail a day but probably thousands over the country. Sometimes the legislators do get it right.Not often just sometimes :Just had a look at the old law books QUOTE exemption from MOT (The above to and from ) Plus where a test certificate has been refused(Fail) a vehicle can be taken to or from a pre arranged place(Not just a garage)for the required repairs to be carried out,or towing it to a place to be broken up Un quote There endeth the lesson

yes bm no distance is stipulated I suppose so that you have the choice. It would be a bit difficult if you lived next door to an mot station,one you hated and never used ,and were forced into going there. Similarly up in the wilds of the highlands ,if they set say a twenty mile radius it might be miles further to the station up there in gods country. I used to take mine 50 miles to my fathers test station(Got it free) and pass dozens on the way.So there it is(Did I say pass
)
