Rear seat types

Post by wishbone »

Would the rear seats from a four door fit a 2 door saloon (both MK2) or would either section fit?

I think so - Traveller rear seats are different, but I believe Saloon seats are all the same.

The rear saloon seats are basically the same - BUT the shapes changed significantly in around 1964? when the two tone was brought in. The seat back of the early cars is about 2-3" higher than the later versions, the squab is a different shape, and on a 2-door at least the rear quarter panels are a different shape.

four door has a rounded seat squab to allow entry to the rear, two door has squared off corners, they are not interchangable without serious modification.

The rear seat base is different. The two door part is wider to fill space in the quarter panels and the 4-door base has a radiused front corners to make access easier.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

OK thanks for that, there's a set of blue four door rear seats on ebay, not going to be any good for my 2 door but if any one wants some their under classic parts\morris.

I think I may go down the metro front seats conversion route and re-cover the rear. Does anyone have a set of plans or advice for mounting them?

Experience tells me that there are several versions of seats fittted to metros. The difference relating to the distance apart of the runners. There are subframes available for 'Metro seats' froma company called Newton Commercial but on the seats I had the runners were wrongly spaced and needed further modification to fit.
