Blue lights on ex police vehicles petition... please sign!

I think you're missing my point. The scenario you're describing is legal today but for one small detail - this hypothetical thief who doesn't want to break the vehicle lighting regulations need only remove the blue filter from his ex-police Range Rover's warning beacon. It sounds like you want a new law that bans anything that looks like a police vehicle, which is outside the scope of this petition.

alex we are taliking about blue lights on ex police cars bought by restorers etc and displaying them on there vehicles so impersonatig a police car

I'm in agreement about the wipers/underlighters, I've done loads of rear mirror double takes recently because of flashes of blue, caused by people driving with blue lights on their cars.

There are also a few cars out there with orange sidelights, just on the side of the bumpers (volvo?) which I find quite confusing at roundabouts etc, expecially when given a glance

(before anyone asks, my eysight's fine, I just think the lighting laws (construction and use?) are being applied a little liberally at the moment)

I agree that deliberately impersonating a police car should be (and is) illegal. The trouble with the law as it stands is that any car with blue light fitted is breaking that law. The person arrested in this case had their blue light fully obscured, so were in no way trying to pretend to be a police car. My blue light is magnetic, so it's not one that's normally left on my car, but a lot of ex emergency vehicles have their blue lights fitted as original, and are covered over to get to shows - which risks arrest if the police are being strict
