Tank Sender Unit Part Number

Post by ToyDoctor »

I need to give the parts supply shop the Morris Minor part number for the early (1958 1000 Traveller) type petrol tank sender unit to get a replacement one in Australia. Can anyone provide me with this number? :o

My daughter is coming out from Melbourne to us in South Africa for Christmas and I'm hoping she can bring the unit for me. Apparently it must be the older one for the gold faced speedo.

Yes, the late sender won't work with the early gauge.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

TOYDOCTOR, don't know the part number but you MUST obtain the type of sender which has a NUT on the terminal. The later type has a push on Lucar connection and is for the black faced speedos only.

Thanx Willie, will tell her it must be nuts like us. I did send her a picture and I can't see them having more than the two types but if all else fails I'll have to order it from UK if someone has stock. Would the original Parts Manual not have the Mowog or BMC number, though?

Bull Motif Spares on on 01386 831755 or www.bullmotif.com lists the sender units so could probably give you the original part number? Worth a try.

Thats right, the gauge works backwards. You're happily driving along thinking smug thoughts about how much petrol you have, then it all goes quiet and you stop.... :-?
Guess how I found this out.... :o :-? :D
cheers

The copy of the microfiche for the Morris 1000 shows three part numbers for the tank sender. In order of production they are :- ARA 957, 17H 732 and ARA 976. Seems to suggest ARA 957 prior to body number 487049. Then moving to 17H 732 until body number 1082280. ARA976 on cars 1082281 onwards. Hope this helps.
