HIF 44 and fittings

I have a HIF 44 carb with the alloy water inlet from a Mini, thing is I need the studs that hold the 2 together I think they would need to be at least 1.75-2" long.....................anyone have any or know where I might get them?

I have feeling they're the same as the studs that hold the manifolds to the cylinder head.

They need to be coarse on one end and fine on the other

One of mine was stripped I drilled the thread out and put a bolt in.

Aren't they just the standard mini/metro LCB studs? should be common in your local autoparts shop. Pretty sure the MG metro ones are what you need - different threads each end as i remember.
Get couple of spare ones too whilst your at it (they should only be pence) remember fitting some new ones and having problems with the outer thread stripping.

Yes, I think they're BSW on one end and BSF on the other. Not sure about the length and my spare head is at work.

Yes, I think they're BSW on one end and BSF on the other

5/16" UNC into the manifold and 5/16" UNF for the carb mounting, I am pretty sure?

Hello Russell,

The manifold studs will be the same thread ie 5\16" UNF and 5\16" UNF but I would be very surprised if they are long enough?
The manifold\carburettor studs are readily available through the normal spares suppliers.

Certainley the inlet casting has a coarse thread

Just checked the exhaust manifold studs and they are only 1.5" long so these can not be used

Here you go Russ 62pence each and it seems to be the same one as used on the thermostat housing.

Doh. I nearly suggested that but I thought the manifold studs were longer.

Thaks for those Kevin all arrived and fits!! Now anyone got any idea if teh Marina airbox will fit and the bonnet close on the HIF 44 with a 1275 I have the elbow anad housing, but someone hinted that I would not close the bonnet

Is thsi right

Pretty sure they are 3/8" thread - course/fine - UNC/UNF - def not manifold studs!

Not sure which elbow was used on the Marina but I had one about 5" long that turned through 90° (to the direction of flow) and upward about 15°. A 1098 Minor aircan fouled the bonnet and I believe that is a bit smaller than the plastic Marina jobbie.
I have a 1098 airbox fitted to a HIF44 by using a home-made PVCu sandwich plate. It took about 2 hours to make with nothing more technical than a electric drill and hacksaw. The gaskets are stick on felt pads cut to size and despite it's Fred Carno design it's barely noticeable. The airflow is improved by opening out the intake pipe on the airbox.

I have an HIF44 fitted to alloy manifold( Minisport I think) and I have an AustinPrincess 1700 aircleaner fitted. It is a close fit to the wiper mounting. BUT I do have an extra 3/4" plate fitted between carb and airleaner for LPG conversion.
Without that plenty clearance.
