948 Water Pump Pulley Paint Colour

Post by IslipMinor »

Am I right in remembering that the water pump pulley on a 1958 948 engined Minor was painted a Post Office red colour?

I thought the red ones were only for minis and midgets but not sure I am sure Judge will know the answer to that one.

Im almost certain that they are supposed to be a bright signal yellow.
Ultimate rust cure for your moggy....paint it brown, at least that way you dont notice the rust as much!!

I've seen both yellow and black, both with yellow fan blades on obvioulst original engines. Think the black one was a late 1098 as far as I can remember. Far as I know the 948s were basically the same colour scheme, its only earlier 803s that could be different colours.

I don't remember the original engine (948) with a yellow pulley - it has a silver one at present, but I may have painted it many years ago. We have had the car for almost 43 years, and it was obviously 'original' when we got it at 6 years old.

I do remember seeing an identical model (it was basically 'original') at a show about 10/12 years ago, and it had a red pulley, but I have never seen another!

Is there anywhere that I can look it up?

I have a red one, but it was originally yellow... 948cc, I stripped the red paint and found the vestiges of a yellow paint job underneath.
Is rust infectious? My hands are turning red...

All yellow as far as I know - although Mini pulleys are black. Mine has been painted red by me - just because I had a spare can of red celly spray paint handy!

Gidday from Australia

My 1960 Morris Minor 1000 / 948cc is still all original as it was from the showroom and the pulley and blades are red. Hope this has helped.

Our original 948 pulley was never yellow, not sure about the fan blade as I don't have it any more.

At least someone else has seen a red (original) one!!
