petrol prices

Just had my first run out in the countryside for quite a while, took the A35 as it was handiest

but really enjoyed being out along the country roads

Called into my regular petrol station and put 20 ltrs; in as usual.. good job I know the owner ( fellow classic enthusiast ) I handed him £20 and was expecting my usual change when he pointed to the sign..... £1.09 a ltr;

.... he knows I've been Ill for a while and we just made a joke of it

What price is petrol down South and up in Scotland ??

97.9 in Scotland Central is about the cheapest I can find.

That's amazing..both ends of the country cheaper

I know I was out of circulation for some time but was amazed at the price hike, I remember seeing on the news that it was going to be £1 a litre... but £1.09 is a bit ott....

Actually with an Asda card we only pay 96.9

It's roughly $3.00 for a US gallon (4 Litres 0.8 Imperial Gallon) so that's about 37.5 pence per litre they are paying. Not fair. Biggest pain over here is 75% fuel duty, then 17.5% VAT on top of that. Oh well, it's only money.

I paid £1.07 for BP Ultimate this evening. I think the regular was 99.9p.

When I bought my first gallon of 25:1 two stroke (for the boat, I was too young to drive) it was 6s 8d (about 34 pence). Standard unleaed now works out at around £4.60 per gallon.

When this government came to power (not being political, just a measure of time) I could not fit £15 of petrol into the Traveller. Last week I put over £25 worth into the same tank.

Marine diesel (pink) used to be 95p per gallon, now it's over that per litre, and thanks to the EU is about to be taxed even higher.

We have to face it, use an engine of any sort and get stitched up, primarily by tax.

I can remember going out with my uncle in his Ford Anglia on his sales rep run. Petrol was 2 Shillings and Sixpence a gallon, oh happy days.

I buy 20 pounds worth of petrol each fill up, that way it stays the same.

Seems quite a variation of prices throughout the country

We have to face it, use an engine of any sort and get stitched up, primarily by tax.

Apart from the tax, people tend to forget that we were all 'conned' when petrol started to be charged by the litre instead of by the gallon... I remember the days when we all complained when the price went up by 1p a gallon

ah yes and houses were £1000.00
and wages were £20.00 a week

so it all stays the same ratio

The good ole U S of A are cussing as the fuel prices creep towards $3 a gallon!!!

Its actually up around 4 dollars for premium, at least in most parts of California. The reason our gas is cheaper than yours is that it doesn't include the price of vehicle registration.

If you mean an annual tax for driving a car on public roads then neither does ours. Minors are exempt because of their age but the vast majority of cars on the road have to pay it. The amount varies but a typical amount is £115 per year. Our government is also trying to push through a third tax based on how many miles you drive (using a GPS tracking system installed in every licensed car - no potential for abuse there then).
