Electrics are one of my many poor areas so just wondered if anyone can give me some quick advice.
My indicator warning light (which is a replacement one on the dash) has stopped working.
The flasher unit is inside the car and gets knocked occasionally and I was scrubbing the bakelite with some No-5 earlier so may have knocked it (scrubbing trim is one of the things I *am* good at
).My assumption is this:
The indicators are still all working fine - flashing bright and regular. However I am not getting any output from the P terminal on the flasher unit. I've checked this with a circuit tester between a good earth point and the terminal. Indicators flashing away - no output to warning light.
Is it safe to conclude that the fault is with the flasher unit? A good supply must surely be reaching the unit for the indicators to function (which would seem to eliminate a stalk/earthing problem) and if a circuit tester between the P terminal and earth shows no signal... Is this a *likely* sounding fault?
I ran a new wire down from the stalk-end bulb a while back and intend to get this working again but want to take things one step at a time and ensure that the simple durite bulb on the dash is working before trying replace it with the stalk bulb.
BTW, an earlier post seemed to suggest that the flasher was polarity intolerant but mine seems to work no matter which way round I connect the wires to the X and L terminals.
Flashers are only a fiver so I'll order a new one but just wondered if I've missed anything? I'm a forgetful person so really need that warning light working - as I have been known to leave the indicator on by mistake now and then...
