Fun

Post by Nadir »

A link to, and a quote from, the Marina Owners club forum...
http://www.morrismarina.org.uk/

"my aol has been down all night and i like frank have missed all the fun seemingly. ok its good to slag the minor owners but there is a serious side to it.what if that guy tells his fellow minor owners about our forum (and you can bet he will ) all that we are saying about them and their cars, just watch more marinas disappear because of it.
if no marina owners want to buy stus marina and he wants the cash what other option has he? devil and the deep blue sea springs to mind."

Anyone fancy 'finding' a set of disk brakes and fitting them out of spite?

What a hostile bunch over on that Marina/Ital Forum. Going by some of the comments regarding the Moggy, you would think they were made by the Germans or French.

Right that's it, I'm going to buy every Marina bit I find on E-Bay and throw it in the bin :D Nah only kidding, I'm sure they are wonderful people under all that rust.

The Marina Club nicked our space at the restoration show - drove past us on the way into get there first. we can only think they wanted a wall behind them. Caused no end of chaos!. Still, I suppose they're useful as donor cars. Can't see any other point to them

Kevin, my comment was in jest, but I can see how both camps are correct in protecting their chosen classic. I do remember several post on this forum where Marinas and Itals have been derided, and over the years many have been butchered/recycled into better Minors.Unfortunately it seems that human nature gets the better of some of us and we become very territorial of our chosen marques. Shame because we are all similar in our goals in preserving cars and should really support each other.
I cannot comment about the show, but it does seem that it will be looked into. :D

Its OK Jonathon I didnt take umbridge at your comment just didnt want to upset a good mate of yours and you are right that our overall aims should be the same to preserve the cars where possible its unfortunate that they are not favoured by the custom people as there profile would certainly be higher just as our custom minors are.
Cheers

I must admit that I found the following statement interesting from this encounter, quote:-

"As Sam has pointed out, the other poster that cam on here was in fact going against the rules of this forum. Like any other he was banned."

Hi guys, i have been reading this topic and also read the other topic on the marina site and as a marina owner i can see why the original post from ireland caused so much hassle. If your car was in the position ours are in, how would you feel about someone coming onto your forum and asking if anyone was selling a minor so that they could break it for the running gear ?

That post caused a big reaction from a few people, myself included about the way the person wnt about it. if he had asked if anyone had a spare 1300 engine for sale i doubt very much there would have been a problem. Only a few weeks ago i sold a chap from stonehouse an engine for his traveller and he was a very genuine guy. i just feel the whole situation could have been handled a whole lot better.

Apologies for posting it here. As an owner of seven or eight (long since gone) Marinas, I only posted it out of interest after seeing the site mentioned elsewhere on this board, and wanting to see how many there are left. No disrespect whatsoever from here - all the best to all of you from me.

Well said General. Some time ago I purchased an engine and some wheels from one of your guys for my convertible, and I was very pleased with the help I received.

Guys,

we are doing ourselves no favours with slagging marinas off. Okay, 'some people' say that all they really are good for is a skip for parts. But with so few left surely it has to be worth something to keep those that are left running, even if it is (to some) a display of how rubbish Leyland/BMC were in the 70s.

Imagine it was the other way round, only 800 1098cc minors left driving no-one would be happy if someone just bought one to scrap for parts - seems to be whats going on in this particular incident.

Maybe it is time to start thinking about alternative routes for upgrades (saying that, I do have an ital lump and marina discs in the garage, but they were bought separate from a car....)

As for the comments about the marina guys nicking our spot at the restoration show, it sounds to me like theres been a bit of misunderstanding. Please please please can we all just try to get along. Like us, they are just human, and like us they are trying to maintain, restore and look after their vehicles of choice - and who can say who is right and who is wrong? Not me, and not anyone from either camp.

This is exactly what traders such as ourselves are doing, but rwd engines and boxes are in very short supply, wherever they come from. Hence the move to Ford. Unfortunately this will mean more specialised/bespoke mods being made available and the slow demise of the scrap yard modifier.

Hi all
after a bit of a chin wag with the Marina people it seems most of the issues on their board was caused by a posting from an offensive Moggie owner (hope its not one of us) which ended up with a heated debate that got the Moggie poster banned and most of the postings deleted, so it looks like a storm in a teacup that I for one slightly missunderstood and a few others as well.
Also it appears that the issues at the Restoration Show came about by the marshalls telling people where they were to go and set up irrelevant of what was agreed beforehand and I am sure (unfortunaely) that lots of us have experienced this at events at one time or another.
I am also going to create a Sticky Posting in the useful tips section they should assist both ourselves (mainly the modifiers) and the Marina Owners Club so that we can both benifit in the future and hopefully keep the banter on a nice friendly level . :D
Cheers
