New odometer

Post by CXW »

Hi,

The odometer in the speedo unit has seized up good and proper, so am planning on replacing it when the new speedo arrives (repair is the second option as it's more expensive).

Does anyone know what the legal position is on starting a new odometer - does it have to be at 0, or can I start it at the existing mileage?

Thanks, CW

No legal requirement at all, except it has to work (the speedo portion anyway)

Mileometer (I know it's also called an Odometer - where on earth does that come from ?) not required at all - and strangely the Speedo is NOT tested as part of the MOT!

The word derives from the Greek words hodós, meaning 'path' or 'way',
