Just to throw a spanner in the works, I came across this guide to roller painting your car and getting a great finish. Lots of wet sanding between each coat though, and I don't know if this paint is available in the UK. For your information.

He claims $50 paint job!

Interestingly, the chap claims the paint needs no primer and gives great results even over bare metal.
I'll be sticking to celly/2-pack as I still think its easier - much less wet sanding.[/list]

i nearly threw up seeing the concours minors at a rally,with mirrors underneath,i mean what is the point in that?snobbery?oneupmanship?greed?They are Minors for gods sake,use them!

Sounds like you are talking about our chairmans Traveller.
As you seemed to have completely missed the point about concours cars as they are a good yardstick on what things should look like, and to answer your questions as no one else has so far.
The mirrors are to show the finish that can be achieved on the underside with a bit of effort.
Snobbery, certainly not within the MMOC competitions.
Oneupmanship, who with as most compeditors are really competing against their own high standards.
Greed, how does that apply to concours cars

As a matter of interest the Traveller I mentioned was sprayed by the owner in his garden and it covers around 3,000 miles a year it has been owned since it was 6 months old and has done around 170,000.

Personally for me a concours car requires too much time and effort

but I do think they are great to see what can be achieved because if all our Moggies were the same what a boring lot we would be I like them all whatever the look.

if you brush 2 pack what proportion of paint ,hardener and thinners do you need to use ,is it not too thin if using the standard mix

Normally still 2-1 mix with hardener plus maybe up to 10% thinner.
2K will normally be too thick to brush on neat. trick is to let it stand for 10 mins before painting then paint quickly. You can use paint only if you have a warm area in which to work and can allow longer drying times.

Can you brush paint the 2 k paint without thinners,or would you need to add some ? Also,what do you mean by leaving it for 10 minutes before painting quickly ?

Yes you can brush paint without thinners, but it may prove a little thick, so try without and add till easy enough to cover. If you add hardener to 2K it will start a chemical reaction to cure the paint. Normally 2K mixed with will have a pot life of around 30-60 mins if left open to the air, before it starts to thicken and eventually harden. This time will be decreased if the air temp is high, hence if you are painting on a hot day or in a booth/warmed room then you will need to paint reasonably quickly.
