vehicle inspections??

Post by TamsinM »

Could someone please let me know if any MMOC members are willing to do pre-sale inspections on vehicles vaguely in my area( Peterborough/ Cambridge etc) ? I have emailed my local Northants branch ,asking the same question but have never had a reply. I am looking to buy a Traveller ( eventually I hope!) & would appreciate extra technical help? Or is there a company which would offer a specialised inspection - at not too extortionate a price? Also any hints on finding a condition1/2 traveller - I have looked in the last 2 issues of Minor Matters & most weeks of Classic Car Weekly - the good ones seem to go too quickly or they're all in West Wales! many thanks.

Sadly I'm in Scotland so a bit far for me to inspect one for you
If you follow the link in your other post to ESM, rest assured they will give you a very honest evaluation of the cars they have for sale. Of course buying privately is a bit cheeper, but you will need someone in the know, to check the vital areas for rust etc.

There is a cheap way to check if vehicle has a problem such as outstanding finance/stolen etc, using a mobile phone text service.
Can't seem to locate my link at present, but if you google it, it will show up. Very cheap compaired to say an AA vehicle check.

A few more travellers for sale here

Hi, I'm in the Northants branch, I'm just a kid so I wouldn't really know what to look for, but, the next Northants branch meeting is on Wednesday 7th, 8pm at the Bell inn, Finedon if you'd like to come along and ask around.

See my thread on this in the "Useful Tips" section: http://www.morrisminoroc.co.uk/index.ph ... ic&t=16406 :D

TamsinM you are going about this the right way and I hope you find a real peach of a car :D The good condition travellers seem to be in high demand and you do need to be able to move fast when you find one, yeah.

Good luck and let us know how you get on! :D

You are right to be wary - even some of the dealers charge a lot - for what may not be as good as it seems!! Check the For Sale section on this forum - members' cars may well be a better bet - especially if the seller has a large number of 'postings' against their name - beware those with very few postings who have only joined to sell!
Like others - i would look for you but just a tad far away - but I'm sure someone local will volunteer soon.

As Andy suggests Tamsin the best starting point is to go along to the local branch meeting as people often respond better when meeting you in the flesh so to speak.
As a branch contact I often get contacted by prospective buyers and I always ask them to come to a meeting as so often unfortunately many turn out to be timewasters and this can be very frustrating.
I am not for one moment suggesting that you are but to put a name to a face in the flesh really is the best way to start, good luck.
Cheers
