Like the VW Polo Sport, who's ECU would sound as though it beeped a warning, only under braking and slight left hand steering lock on. Even had VW dealer stumped. Turns out, it's just brake squeal, from one side, that sounds exactly like the ECU warning beeps.

When I lift the bonnets of modern cars I scare myself

Once fitted a Radio/CD head unit to a friends Mondeo to replace the factory unit he didn't like. Car would hardly run after I had finished the work. Put old stereo back in, car runs fine. Phone a friend who worked with Ford at that time, told factory radio has auto volume adjust, it gets louder as you go faster to overcome inreased engine and road noise. Had to ground a wire through a resistor and loop another wire back to the ECU.

That's why I like the Moggy, less for me to screw up

I've been running on servo-assisted Marina brakes since 1992 and haven't had to touch a rear wheel cylinder. After some recent problems with the Ford conversion I reverted back to the Marina setup with recon callipers. All is well now.

Don't know what Marina discs are like wear wise. But I used to have a Citroen AX and I had to fit new discs every year due to rust build up on inside of disc. Even though it was used every day. Drums don't seem to rust like that.

My Marina discs have covered 25,000 miles and have worn from 9.5mm to 9.2mm with 8.5mm being the minimum rotor thickness. I use Brakeworld Ford pads BW123 and they last ages as well. Rotors are Quintin Hazel BDC3100 and should last about 75,000 miles maybe more.

I've never had issues with any of my disc braked cars, other than my XR2 which used to warp them quicker than you could order up replacements!

Not been on hols - just watching - and LAUGHING!!
'Pads rattle cured by lowering etc' - pull the other one MT, it's got bells on!
Just checking it's not April 1st!

Mowogg - are you in some way discontented with your W drum brakes ? Have they faded on you - and do you have to adjust them 'often' ??
Because mine are excellent - don't fade despite some determined efforts to do so, and are only evere adjusted up annually when I take the drums off and clean out/check before MOT.
I find my W drums are excellent - inexpensive, dead easy to install, very very reliable, no servo required (and therefore no brake pipe re-routing required),no master cylinder mods required, no additional (possibly leaky) remote fluid reservoir. And they STOP the car over and over.
But - if you want to do all that work to try the Marina discs - carry on !

Firstly, let me make it quite clear, that any information I give on this forum, is given in good faith. If I ever intend to make a joke, I will do it in an appropriate section of the forum, and not in a thread about brakes.

Secondly, I find your remarks in this instance extremely offensive. It is your right to question any information posted, but please do it, in a civilised manner. You were the first person to say “Well Said” in the thread about manners. May I respectfully request that you practice what you deem to be the right way to conduct oneself on the forum.
