Hi there
I think the clutch plate might be slipping on 'Poppy'(1968 saloon).
Wondering if oil leak onto the clutch plate is the problem?(she does have one or two I think)
When the engine is under pressure e.g. going up hill, I can hear the engine striving to do as asked of her but she's just not not getting there - if that makes sense to any of you.
Can they be stripped and cleaned or does it mean a replacement?
Thanks
Liz

If clutch slipping - the engine will be revving up, yet car not getting any faster. Quick test - car parked in empty space with handbrake hard on and nothing in front! - select 4th gear , rev up and lift your foot off the clutch pedal quickly. If the clutch is good - the engine will stall right away. If it's slipping - it will be obvious!!
New plate + rectification of oil leak required if slipping (means engine out or gearbox off) - although just make sure you have some 'free play' in the pedal ajustment - however as clutch wears free play tends to increase on Minor anyway.
