running a nikki carb, don't hate me!

Post by callyspoy »

so i have a nikki carb, it doesn't really work all that great, and i was wondering ifanyone could give me a few little notes on making it run better(and no "swap back to s.u" please!!) if you try to accelerate, it just farts, pretty much until the second part opens, at which point its okay. had a look at the jet, doesn't seem in a bad way, so please...if you can help...im all ears![

Doh... spoil our fun why don't you!

No help I know but, is it one of those groovy ones where you can see the fuel inside? 8)

Its got to be a fuelling issue. If it starts behaving when the 2nd choke is open. All thats doing is shoving more fuel in.
What would Macgyver do..?

Really - that carb is well know in the Mini world for being hopeless. Give it up - the SU is a very clever (and surprisingly simple) piece of engineering with it's variable throat area - it is the way to go.
There was a lad on one of the Mini forums recently tried and tried against all the advice to make one of these work - after weeks of banging his head against the wall - he put on a nice big SU and bingo - his car went better than ever before.

I've got an inlet manifold for a pair of 1 1/4 SU's if you want.

If my HIF38 and inlet ever turn up, I should have a pair of HS2s to go on an inlet. And the inlet for them to go on too!

But I'm a compulsive hoarder, and yet I'm willing to flog these carbs. That should say more than enough about the condition of them..! ;)

Yes, It's from an MG 1100. You'd need a pair of carbs for it though.
