p.s. in Halfords today I noticed that their "clasic oil" now has API ratings - SE & CC.
I have used the Halfords Classic oil for a few years now and would never change i think its top gear.
Ditto. Some folk used to wonder about it as it did not carry any spec on the can. Now it does. Looks very like the old Dukhams 20/50 to me. I think it's great oil.
My local motor factors used to sell Duckhams 20W50 until fairly recently but now the only 20W50 they do is a cheap make I'd never heard of that doesn't have a rating on the label.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.
According to their site it retails at 14,99 per gallon
I pay 9 pounds for SL rated Comma 20-50
17,99 for Duckhams

2 years ago I got some high rated Duckhams 20/50 for under £9 at the national.
I got a local spares place to order some in for me last year and despite being £12 it turned out to be a much lower spec!! The good stuff was SJ (I think) but the stuff I got recently was only SE
Can anyone remind me as to which Minor supplier does Duckhams 20/50 ?

Not a Minor supplier per se, but Millards in Bristol does Duckhams 20W/50, API SF/CD. A 4.5L bottle and a replacement filter together cost me £18 yesterday.
(not sure what this API business is, but hey.... )
Oils supplied for normal cars even thinner here as the norm - lower average air temp than you lot south.
If scabby ever gets an engine rebuild it'll be castrol R going in there and nothing else - the aroma outweighs the cost and potential problems everytime you drive
