You betcha!
I've done some difficult jobs on the Minor and I have to say some easy jobs that just, wouldn't play ball (you know the sort eh? ).
Todays job was the only one that had sweat rolling off my forehead through sheer nerves. Today I fitted the hood to Albert. For the uninitiated it entails temporarily tacking the thing down at the rear, then pulling the front and taking down there. The difficulty is just how hard to pull. Too little and you have to untack and start again. Too much and you have to relieve it and end up with a row of unwanted holes
Anyhow. It looks tidy now and the proof of the pudding will be in the eating. if I get it up to 70 and the thing doesn't peel back like a joghurt top then I guess I've done the job properly. Cross yer fingers.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
Want to help me put a new hood on my TR7 ?? I'm dreading it.
It might be easier to put the TR onto the hood.
Seroiusly though, I'd love to take a trip up there mate but time is hard to come by. look at how long it's taken me to get Albert roadworthy again. He was a 'runner' in April!

Thanks MT - it's a job i'm putting off at the moment - mostly because dreading making a mess of it! The car's only on the road now to end of October - and making the most of (some of) the recent good weather. Then I will have a few months to think the job over. Through your way tomorrow, and again on Saturday - at Bo'ness Railway.
Thougth I'd found the worse job yesterday - noting has phased me yet until .... properly fitting the centre bit of carpet and getting the 6 screws through the rubber gearstick gaitor and the carpet to line up with the holes ... worst job to date !

Ha Ha, yes another one of those annoying little jobs that can take a while.
Wee mod that looks quite nice on that gator rim. You can use 'Mirror' fixing screws that have the chrome finisher dome that screws onto the head of the actual screw. But I guess since you have the screws fitted already, you won't want to do the job again
Too Late now I know but I did post a tip on this issue a while ago.
Do a temporary fix with 2 x no8 inch screws you can then get your fingers under the carpet and feel for the holes. Then tighten all the srcrews up (yes they do fit) and replace them one at a time with the correct ones.
As always easy if you know how!
This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.
Next time if ever there is one it has to come off will mark the carpet as they come out and punch a hole through the carpet.
You cant drill a hole in carpet very easily !
Take the front seats out and fit that carpet section first. Place it and the gearstick gater, ring and screws insitu. Turn the carpet section inside out (ie curves upward) so you can see the transmission tunnel. Start the front screws first, then the sides and rear.

my carpets took just over a day to fit, i swear that isnt right! anyone else with a long stick feel that perhaps that centre bit of carpet was made REALLY badly?! i.e-does it go over or under the gaiter??!! did it, but nightmarish!
i 'believe' its supposed to go under - waits for a concours person
Didnt have mine fixed at all, it was kind of flapping about and rotating all over the place driving me nuts it was.
Would love to put some of that undercarpet soundproofy stuff in but guess its just a moisture trap let alone the nightmare of fitting it.
yes, i put mine under, had to cut the carpet slightly so that it would fit, and then cut off some of the actual red carpet and just leave the base so that it would fit under the gaiter. crazy! but...the carpets have made my car look about 100 times better then it did before, ie-no carpets at all! rather noisy before!
pete...thats exactly what my dada said...so i didn't bother with that one! it's good to see everyone has similar problems and me and dad are not just complete muppets!
I've yet to start soundproofing my minor (its still little more than an MOT'd shell at the moment) ... I was thinking of using carpet underlay, but does anyone have any better ideas?

Go to B&Q and get some of the old fashioned felt type carpet underlay. Very easy to shape and cut, great soundproofing.
