wouldn't it be a little short sighted to fit it to a standard gearbox?fit the Maistro engine to either a standard or 5spd Ford box"
I would guess you would want the slightly better MG 1275 box (quite similar to the Minor 1098 box)
The Ford 5 speed is therefore a good alternative.

surely it's better to get an ital engine then - even if you end up paying £100 for one of those expensive readily available ones, where you have to drive a few miles to collect??

Yep! That sounds like JLH!!! He's good but VERY expensive. I paid about £1400 for all my rear end conversion (axle, prop, radius arms, turreted shockers, etc). AND I fitted / welded it all in myself!A bag of sand!! yr jokin lol
You do get good quality stuff but you really have to pay for it!
Much cheaper to get an Ital engine!

The problem is Ray that they are not so easy to get hold of any more even high mileage ones like turbominor came across were at lot more than that, I did not find one local to me at all and ended going to Wellingborough, although it was a nice trip and was for a Midget one.it's better to get an ital engine then - even if you end up paying £100 for one of those expensive readily available ones

well yes, you shouldn't expect to find one without leaving your locality. but Welly is probably nearer to you than JLH, so I will argue the point anyway ;-)where you have to drive a few miles to collect
I'm sure they are a lot easier to find than a grand!
