torqe settings

i had new rubber put on the rear wheels today.the airlines at the tyre center were not working so they used there mobile van to supply the air.the wheel nuts were done up with the biggest t bar i have seen.when i got home i struggled to undo the wheel nuts,when i tightened the threads were stripped on two of the nuts.had to go to minor mainia to get some new ones.i have got a torque wrench can someone give me a sensibble setting thanks dale.

Assuming you have standard metal wheels 50 to 60 Ft/Lbs

No - that's far too high you will strip the nuts/distort the wheels - these are 3/8" studs - and the correct torque is 35/40 ftlbs.

BMC is right. I was looking at the NM scale on my torque wrench Doh.
Still trying to avoid Euro specifications, must think imperial.

dont think ive ever torqued a wheel up,just turn it till its tight and then a bit more!
