If it's the speedo with the 4 lights (red blue and 2 orange) then top right orange is 'Oil Filter Blocked' warning light.

Aye - but do something about that blocked filter right away!! It needs a new filter and an oil change - urgently!

Must be faulty switch - or the wire going to the switch has shorted to earth. It should be plugged in just above the filter - on the top of the case.

Don't know if the lights changed position between old and new speedo heads, but mine (1971 black speedo) has Top right (amber) = oil pressure warning light.

Top left (amber) = Oil filter change warning light (if fitted).
Bottom right (red) = Ignition warning light.
Bottom Left (blue) = Headlamp main beam warning light.

This is as per the drivers handbook for the year too.

That would mean top right staying on is low oil pressure (or a faulty switch or wire shorting to earth), not the filter switch or wiring.

i.e. investigate the wiring or switch to the back of the block, not to the filter housing at the front.
Cheers, Axolotl.

PS I've just had a look at the speedo on a 1963 ish Minor 1000 that I've got in my garage at the moment (gold), and that has only three lights:

Top centre (blue) = Main beam warning,
Bottom right (red) = ignition warning,
Bottom left (amber) = oil presssure warning.

So I would guess that ones with four lights are the later black ones, all as my previous post.
Cheers, Axolotl.

Agreed - thought I was going mad, so I checked a few speedos, all late model

Top right (amber) Oil pressure warning
Bottom right (red) = Ignition warning light.
Top left (amber) = Oil filter change warning light (if fitted).
Bottom Left (blue) = Headlamp main beam warning light.

Bit of a relief, as I've spent a lot of time over the last couple of days getting them working correctly :)

Mine - unadultered fom new - has the the upper left orange as the oil pressure warning light. But my 'handbook' says it should be the upper right hand one !! Maybe they just mixed and matched ?
How about a Pole Andrew ??

Pole? ;)

Not sure what a poll would achieve either, really.

My oil pressure is above the red dynamo light on the right of the speedo.

It's easy enough to check which is which, just pull the spade connector off the oil pressure switch (Rear end of block half way down drivers side) and see if the light still comes on.

If it doesn't then it is the oil pressure light, and either your switch is had it, oil is low or wrong grade, or pump loose/worn. Suspect the switch first.

If it does then pull the spade from the top of the filter housing to see if it goes off. If it does then leave it disconnected. :)
